In general there are two types of social encounters and challenges.

Small social encounters involve talking to a single person or group with a single motivation and goal.

  • Eg. Getting a discount from a merchant.

Large social encounters involve several people, each with unique motivations and goals as well as a crowd of unnamed NPCS.

  • Eg. Convincing people at a political meeting to vote against a war.

This system aims to make small social encounters quick and rules-lite while large social encounters become rules heavy. Rules for both encounters should be subtle and unobtrusive to not distract players from their Roleplay.

In general the social ruleset kicks in when players decide to convince someone to do something that goes beyond a simple Skill roll. First the GM sets a difficulty from -2 to 2 - which depends on the character’s opinions and values, and adds this to the Characters Willpower. (Or comes up with a single value that is the sum of those two things).
